Dr. Doug Erwin

Performing Arts Teacher

Dr. Doug Erwin is Kairos’ Theatre and Performing Arts teacher, bringing his passion for the stage to help students create extraordinary performances. Entering his first year at Kairos with 35 years of experience in education, Doug is most looking forward to collaborating with students to produce amazing art and performances on stage.

Doug earned his B.A. in Communication and M.A.E. in Theatre Education from Truman State University, an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership and an Ed.D. in Fine Arts Instructional Leadership from Lindenwood University, and completed post-doctoral work in Andragogy at Lindenwood University. He also studied Musical Theatre at NYU. He identifies most with the Kairos value of excellence, seeing it as central to all aspects of his teaching. Throughout his career, Doug has earned numerous accolades, including Arts and Education Teacher of the Year (2016), Shakespeare Educator of the Year (2017), multiple Inspirational Teacher of the Year awards, and six Arts for Life (St. Louis Theatre Awards) wins.

Outside of the classroom, Doug is a professional actor and singer in the St. Louis area, plays the harp, and is a proud father of three boys. He has former students performing on Broadway and in Hollywood, including one who voices Black Panther for Marvel.
